Spirituality is the Most Practical Thing

I just came back from a very nice trip with my sister and a friend. And what I liked best was that my sister treated me to a relaxing massage at the hotel spa. When the lady finished the massage, she commented that she could not find any points of tension in my body. No knots, balls, etc. She said she had been doing her work for many years and it was pretty rare to find someone without those kind of things. That those things commonly appear after cumulative stressing out for weeks, months and years.

I told her I have been on a spiritual journey for a few years now. That it has hugely helped me to reach a new, much more positive perspective about life and myself. That indeed I feel much better physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. And she said that my body shows it indeed.

So I was reminded about something the great teacher Anthony de Mello would say: Spirituality is the most practical thing we can do.

It is not something abstract or ethereal that does not have much to do with daily, earthly life. On the contrary, in my experience it has been something that has influenced the practical side of my life for the better.

Devoting time to meditation, reading good spiritual material, talking about spiritual subjects, living in the present moment, enjoying nature, listening to meditative music, etc. all has helped me become a better person, one who deals with stressful situation much, much better than in the past.

So I would like to encourage anyone on this path to continue doing so. It can be challenging at times, but the actual practical benefits are so very worthwhile!
